TRAIN@wayne Fellow Jecenia Duran awarded NIH F31 NRSA to study the effects of prenatal opioid and SSRI use
Although opioid use disorder and depression are common comorbidities, not much is known about the effects of their medications on the health of pregnant persons and their progeny. Mentored by Dr. Susanne Brummelte, TRAIN@wayne Fellow Jecenia Duran's NIH F31 grant entitled “Perinatal exposure to concomitant opioid and antidepressant medications: Effects on the maternal brain, behavior, and offspring development in a translational rodent model” seeks to evaluate the consequences of co-exposure to buprenorphine and sertraline, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, during pregnancy on maternal care and offspring outcomes to shed light on the underlying neurobiological and behavioral mechanisms.
